I hate NOVA

Sorry, I really do. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] I hate how everytime I go up there I get made fun of for how I talk, I hate how they think we still live in 1925, I hate how the state in general underfunds us and our schools, I hate how our local teams have to travel up there to play for something they've worked there entire childhood for, and I hate how many of the northerners I go to school with think were a ghost town because on Friday Nights everybody is at a high school football stadium. There I'm done, sorry after reading VA Preps I had to blow off some steam.

I've only had a problem with one person over here at my college about the south. A person who grew up in NOVA actually. "I'd never take the bus to the south, they make black people sit in the back of the bus." And I reply "That's really not true dude." "I beg to differ." "Okay, I was born in Southwest Virginia, lived in southeastern North Carolina as a toddler, meaning I've lived in the south my entire life, I think I'd know a bit more about what it's like in the south."

I hate it how they think we're the only racists in the country and that we still live off of it. Yeah there are racists here but there are racists everywhere.

Some part of my accent has changed from living on a college campus. I'm trying to the part of the SWVA accent back that I have lost. I still have my SWVA accent.

Making fun will not change a person's accent.

i got some friends from nova and they make fun of my accent but they mean nothing by it, but most people [censored] me off from nova b/c they associate swva with no electricity, no water, and no education

I dont like the Northern part of Vriginia either(I hate that NOVA stuff lol). They are so arrogant.

Harrisonburg/Charlottesville, etc isnt northern va, its central virginia and alot of these people are as country as can be. True NOVA is arlington, alexandria, Herndon, Fairfax, etc. Most of these people from the areas I just mentioned arent even Virginians, they are asssclowns from all across the nation that work for the govt. Indian Dad has always mentioned stereotypes. If you look at our state, its the same thing. NOVA is the wealthy, stuck up, group that frowns on the rest of the state. The Tidewater group is a bunch of black, thugged out gangbangers with corn rows ala Allen Iverson and Marcus Vick. Our area is a bunch of rednecks with bad dental plans and no electricity.

People are people, wherever you go, there are going to be asssclowns. I have no idea what the deal is with the VHSL, but point blank, be pissed off at the 5 a$$$hats that decided to give the game away. Not everyone from NOVA is the same. Truth be known, Id probably KILL myself if I lived there and would be an a$$ too if it took me 2 hours to get to work and only be like 15 miles away.

You all are talking about people from NOVA making fun of your accents...where do you go to college???

If you attend a college in SWVA...VT, Radford, UVA-W, etc...you need to inform them that is how we talk in this part of the state...THEY are the one's with the funny accent...worked for me when I was a VT...

I go to Berea College in Kentucky. So being made fun of isn't really anything to expect.

I used to get pissed at the way NOVA folks looked at us, but 5 weeks in Richmond fixed that. While at the D.O.C.'s A.S.D., myself and Officer Dockery were greeted with that bull, and we decided to have some fun with it. We went out and bought a bluegrass CD (both of us despise bluegrass btw), and would roll down the windows on breaks and blast that sucker through the parking lot. We purposefully exaggerated our Mountain drawls, slowing things down. We talked about eatin' possum dumplings, racoon stew, and groundhawg giblets that mamaw makes, told them we'd whoop a wildcat we reckon just to git sum more. What did this do? It infuriated them when we finished 1-2 in a class of 37 not just in the classroom, but the range, and defensive tactics mat as well. On Tuesday of Week 3, Officer Gramazio (from Boston) came knocking on our room door at 7pm. We were wondering what was going on, and had to chuckle when he sheepishly said "I figured this crap out, yes I am slow evidently-it's all an act. Do you guys mind if I study with you?". As for the defensive tactics part of the course, our friends from NOVA got a little education hillbilly style. Those boys were glad to see Friday come, and we were sad to see it go-had a blast. It became more frustrating for our NOVA friends when after taking less than 10 minutes to qualify on an assortment of firearms, myself and Officer Dockery were instructed to have a seat on the picnic table while the rest were instructed on how to handle a firearm. Yeah, it was nice, shades on, Gatorade-sippin' saying "Youins need to git to work". I learned that this is the way that you teach folks like that lessons. How frustrating it must have been in their minds when they angrily asked themselves "How in the hell are these inbred hicks making us look like this?". Let folks have their fun, heck-feed into it, then when it counts, bust your balls, show SWVA pride, do everything you can to embarrass the haters. I humbly beseech Freddy, B5m, and Shoe to do the same while there.

I agree and disagree. The same thing is going on here. Teams like Gate City, Lebanon, John Battle, VA High and some others if they are top seeds in the Region will not get to have home field advantage and will have to travel to Wise County to play for the Region D Championship. How is that fair to the team? But if it is something not to be changed then why not rotate between two areas? Maybe have the Region D Championship held at UVA Wise one year and the next hold it at VA High.

There is a difference in going an hour or so for a game (I mean shoot, some of us have to do that for regular season games...or even more) and always having on area have to go, and another area never having to go.

Norton Walmart is 30-40 minutes from Clintwood. I don't like that, wish it was closer but its not that ridiculous. Anybody can make those trips and not really kill their whole day. Knoxville is another story, it takes a lot longer to go there, and then you have to come back.

Its really the difference. Its like "oh those SWVA people can come up here for a game", but "NOVA can't go there". I do understand that there is no perfect solution however I think there is definitely a more fair solution.
